-
The grade 12 students are going on their annual ski trip to Mt. St. Louis/Moonstone on Friday February 15. Students going on the trip must travel on the bus organized for the trip. There is no school for grade 12 students on that day.
-
Monday February 18 is the new Family Day holiday.
December - January
- The next issue of the Guido Gazette will be distributed in the local churches on December 16.
- Friday, December 21 is the last instructional day of 2007. We will have a Christmas assembly starting at 9:00 a.m. and then shortened classes for the rest of the day.
- The Christmas holidays take place from Monday, December 24 to Friday, January 4.
- The first instructional day of 2008 is Monday, January 7.
- The Leadership Council is hosting the annual Winter Banquet on Friday, January 11. Further details will be posted at a later date.
- The last instructional day of the first semester is Friday, January 18.
- The first semester exams take place from Monday January 21 to Friday January 25. Check for the exam schedule posted elsewhere. Students should only come to school on the day they have to write an exam. Textbooks must be handed in during the exam week. Buses will use their normal morning schedule. However, all buses will leave school at 11:10 a.m., so arrival home will be about four hours earlier than normal. Timothy students will have to find their own rides home during the exam week.
- Monday, January 28 is a PA day and no school for the students.
- The second semester begins on Tuesday January 29 with a full day of school. Students will receive their timetables and textbooks on that day.
- On Monday, January 28 we are hosting a Guido information meeting starting at 8 p.m. This meeting is geared for all parents whose child is entering grade 9 in September 2008. This meeting will also be of interest to any parents with children in grades 6 to 8 since we will be explaining the programs that our school offers, including our special needs support program. Therefore if you are contemplating enroling your child in Guido within the next year to four years, this meeting is for you.
Looking ahead...
- We are still waiting confirmation from the government that Monday February 18 is a new statutory holiday. If it is, then that day will be a holiday for all teachers and students.
- For this school year only, we will have a two-week March Break from Monday, March 10 to Friday March 21. Easter Monday on March 17 will be a regular day of school.
- The grade 10 Literacy Test will take place on Thursday, March 27.
October- November
After an enjoyable and warm Thanksgiving Weekend, we can look forward to some industrious weeks of school before the next break.
Some upcoming items and events.
- Wednesday, October 10 is the provincial election. Our students will be reminded of this important event because there will be a local polling station in our gym. If you are over 18 years of age, exercise your democratic right and get out and vote.
- On Sunday, October 14, you will receive in your local church the new and improved "Guido Gazette". This eight-page full colour layout will be easier to read and provide more pictures of life at our school.
- On Tuesday, October 16 our school is hosting 48 students from the Greijdanus College in Zwolle, the Netherlands. They will sing at a noon-hour concert, enjoy a lunch provided by our Food and Nutrition class and then head out to Burlington for an evening concert.
- On Friday, October 19 the grade 9 students will receive an interim report. Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 will not receive an interim report this year. However, all students will still receive a parent-teacher request form. We encourage you to come to our parent-teacher conferences on either Wednesday or Thursday, October 24 or 25. The conference request forms can also be downloaded from our web site.
- The Student Leadership Council is hosting a "School Siege". Students stay at school during the evening of October 19 to 20 to raise funds for Worldwide Christian Schools. The event is supervised with a lockdown for most of the evening when participants must stay in the school building, and no one else can come in the building.
- Thursday and Friday, May 25 and 26 are teachers' convention days and no school for students.
- Picture re-takes are on Tuesday, November 6. Students who were absent for the last picture day or want another picture taken will be eligible for a picture on that day. If a student wants a picture-retake, they will have to take their old pictures along.
- Friday, November 9 is the date for the Guido membership meeting. Information will be sent out to the locals in the week prior to the meeting.
- On Friday, November 16 all the students will receive the mid-semester report cards using the new format. Parent Newsletters will be attached to the reports.
August - September
Welcome to the new 2007-08 school year. All parents should have received their summer mailings which include your child's timetable, locker assignments, and summary of student expectations. Your local rep will hand out the revised Parent Handbook on Sunday, September 2. On Thursday, August 30 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. we will have an Open House for new students hosted by our Student Leadership Council. Come and enjoy some refreshments while your child checks out locker and room locations and becomes familiar with the layout of the school. Attending this Open House will help reduce the stress on the first day of school. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4. This will be a full day of school. Students are to take along their own pens and binders. Textbooks will be handed out by the teachers. Other important events for the month:
